Day 1 (33)

Well....Day 1 (33) has NOT started out uneventful! We ( I should say, Jack) was awakened to the smoke alarms blaring (I on the other hand didn't hear them) and a dark house with no electricity! When I finally stirred because of the commotion (choice words coming from his mouth), I was greeted with a view of him standing on a chair in his underwear with a flashlight in his mouth, digging frantically at the smoke alarm battery. We couldn't see our breath, but suffice it to say, goosebumps were on overload!

After several minutes (seemed like hours), he was able to dismantle the two upstairs and one in the basement. Next order of business was to get a fire started. Obviously no current meant no phones, and since we have no cell service, we felt like we were back on the ranch in Richey, MT in a snowstorm! We made a quick decision to head into Starbucks with our laptops-at least Jack could tend to business that way-and then head over to Frank's Diner, a quaint breakfast spot in a historic railroad diner car. The blood pressure had just returned to normal when we were rounding one of the 17 curves in the road back home, and Jack asked if his laptop/briefcase was in the back seat. Yup! You guessed it. It was not. The boiling point appeared again, and Jack just kept on driving and said he would drive home first. Thankfully there was light when we opened the door-EVERY light-and he went to call the Starbucks to check on his laptop. There are about 11 Starbucks listed in the phonebook, and of course the one we were at was NOT there. After 4 calls receiving varying answers from "huh?" to "we're really swamped right now...sorry can't help you", he finally got the correct number and thank God, they found his bag!

I know all of this is most likely the norm for many people, and obviously it is NOTHING compared to the BIG bump in the road we are both dealing with right now, but, consider this part of my therapy-talking/thinking about something else. It is quite obvious our minds are both heavy with thought, as I'm the one who "forgets" now and then. The Action man RARELY has that problem. His ducks are always pretty much in a straight, organized (to the point of being scary to someone like me) row.

In spite of this exciting morning of Friday the 13th, (and we are absolutely NOT superstitious!), we are both continuing to count our blessings. We had firewood and a match, and each other. That alone makes any "bad" day good.

You all have a blessed day, and rather than thinking about Friday the 13th, think about Philippians 4:13
